Van de Graaff Generator

Van de Graaff GeneratorThe Van de Graaff Generator, better known as “the thing that makes your hair stand up,” is used to teach children about static electricity, atoms, the atomic nucleus, electrons, neutrons and protons through hands-on experience. The generator, which looks like a big aluminum ball mounted on a pedestal, interests children because of its affect when used.

American physicist Robert Jemison Van de Graaff invented the Van de Graaff generator in 1931 for supplying high energy for early particle accelerators. Corresponding lesson can be brought to classrooms, public libraries or other community-based group gatherings.
