POWERSOUTH ANNOUNCES PROMOTIONS

PowerSouth Energy Cooperative announced today the promotion of two employees within its Power Supply Division.

David Powell, former Plant Manager of the Lowman Power Plant in Leroy, Ala., has been promoted to Director of Power Production. Brian Matheson, former Technical Services Superintendent at the Lowman Plant, has been promoted to the Lowman Plant Manager position.

Powell, who has served as Lowman Power Plant Manager since 2009, will now be responsible for all three of PowerSouth’s generating facilities. In his new role, all power plants will report directly to Powell, while Powell continues to report directly to Damon Morgan, PowerSouth Vice President of Power Supply.

“Since taking over at the Lowman Power Plant, David has proven himself as a real team player,” says Morgan. “He understands the issues and is respected by the employees. We are looking forward to expanding his leadership to cover all of the plants.”

A native of Leroy, Powell joined PowerSouth in 1977, holding the positions of Plant Chemist, Plant Coordinator, Plant Services Supervisor, Assistant Plant Superintendent, Utilities Superintendent, Plant Services Superintendent and Plant Manager. He and his wife, Cindy, have three children.

Matheson, who joined PowerSouth in 1996, has been selected to replace Powell as Lowman Power Plant Manager. Matheson joined PowerSouth as a Principal Engineer, before serving as Assistant Plant Superintendent and Technical Services Superintendent. He served in his previous capacity since 2007.

“Brian has continued to grow and take on additional challenges,” Morgan says. “He has a great group of folks to work with at the Lowman Plant, and they are extremely dedicated to what they do.”

A native of Leroy, he and his wife, Valarie, have two children.
