ANDALUSIA, ALA. — As a result of the recent heavy rainfall, PowerSouth is preparing for the expected rise of the Conecuh River and Patsaliga Creek flowing into Gantt and Point A lakes.
As of this morning, lake levels remain near minimum pool. PowerSouth continues its controlled release of water, currently running two generating units at the Gantt Hydroelectric Plant and two at the Point A Hydroelectric Plant, with two gates open.
In response to the amount of rain received upstream during the weekend and this morning, PowerSouth’s Central Generation personnel are monitoring the rise of water flowing from the Conecuh River and Patsaliga Creek to keep lake levels within normal pool.
PowerSouth kept a close watch on Gantt and Point A lake levels over the weekend. The cooperative controls the operation of the dams for Gantt and Point A lakes on the Conecuh River near Gantt, Ala., which are subject to government-mandated water levels.
“We will continue to be vigilant of the lake levels as water inflow increases,” said Mark Ingram, PowerSouth Communication Manager. “Residents are reminded to take necessary safety precautions and avoid low-lying areas.”
