PowerSouth names new building in honor of longtime General Counsel Ted Jackson
ANDALUSIA, ALA.– PowerSouth dedicated its newest building in honor of longtime General Counsel J. Theodore (Ted) Jackson, Jr., in a ceremony on Feb. 24. The 44,000-square-foot, two-story building at PowerSouth’s headquarters campus in Andalusia, Ala., was designed to meet physical and cyber security standards while accommodating future growth.
Jackson has served as PowerSouth’s general counsel since 1978 and has been integral in the cooperative’s successes through the years, said Stan Wilson, PowerSouth’s Board Chairman and CEO of Clarke-Washington EMC in Jackson, Ala.
“We’ve learned a lot from you,” Wilson said during the dedication ceremony. “It’s a pleasure to have you with us and to be able to call you a friend. We’re also grateful for all your support over the years of PowerSouth and the other cooperatives you’ve been involved with.”
PowerSouth President and CEO Gary Smith said it was appropriate to name the new building after Jackson since his work helped provide a strong foundation from which the cooperative could grow and prosper.
“He is part of this organization’s foundation, so it’s fitting to name a building in his honor, Smith said. “Ted is both our history and our historian. He’s done so many things that lead us to the future.”
Smith recognized Jackson’s “calm deliberation” and “dignified presence” and said that everyone who knew Jackson was “blessed to have him in their lives.”
Jackson said he was grateful for and humbled by the honor.
“It is a real blessing to me to be honored in this way — it never occurred to me that anybody would ever name a building for me,” Jackson said. “I just have an extreme affinity and love for PowerSouth and its members. Rural electrification is in my blood.”
“Thank you for this tremendous honor you’ve given me,” Jackson said. “I look forward to the days to come with PowerSouth and its members.”
Jackson is a shareholder in the Rushton, Stakely, Johnston & Garrett, P.A., law firm headquartered in Montgomery, Ala. He practices primarily in the areas of utility law, taxation, general corporate law, municipal and corporate finance, and the law of cooperative organizations.
