ANDALUSIA, ALA.– PowerSouth Energy Cooperative recently presented the Ray Jeffcoat Outstanding Service Award to Cleve Roberson, longtime trustee of Southern Pine Electric Cooperative, Brewton, Ala., and past PowerSouth board member.
The Jeffcoat Award recognizes significant contributions made toward the growth and success of PowerSouth. The award was presented at PowerSouth’s 2011 Trustee Update in Montgomery, Ala., by the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Gary Smith.
Roberson is a well-known and respected member of the cooperative community, having served on the Southern Pine Board of Trustees since 1978. He served on PowerSouth’s board of trustees for a combined total of 12 years.
“Mr. Roberson has exemplified the cooperative spirit and brought wisdom and knowledge to our board,” said Smith. “I’ve heard him say that there’s no better calling in life than to serve your fellow man – and I truly believe he lives this principle and strives to help others whenever he can.”
Roberson is a member and deacon at New Bethlehem Baptist Church in Barnett Cross Roads. He was president of the former Wallace Community Center and a past member of the Barnett Cross Roads Fire Department. He is a graduate of W.S. Neal High School and has been self employed since 1972 as president of J.R.’s Trucking.
“Cleve has always enjoyed representing the cooperative members,” said Vince Johnson, Southern Pine EC General Manager. “He has taken his position as a board member very seriously and strives to serve the members in all that he does. He is a great example for all of us at Southern Pine EC.”
Recipients of the Jeffcoat Award have demonstrated outstanding dedication, leadership and commitment to excellence in serving on PowerSouth’s board of trustees. Roberson was nominated and selected by a majority vote and presented with an engraved plaque to commemorate and recognize the achievement.
Ray Jeffcoat, the first recipient of the award in 1992, represented Opp and Micolas Mills on the PowerSouth board from 1964 to 1990 and served as chairman of the board from 1968 to 1974. The award was initially called PowerSouth’s Outstanding Service Award and was renamed following the presentation to Jeffcoat.
