ANDALUSIA, ALA. —PowerSouth recognized Central Generation employees with a special dinner on May 21, thanking them for their help in achieving a company-wide safety milestone of one year with no lost-time accidents.

This tremendous accomplishment was achieved at 12:01 a.m. on March 6, and represents more than 1.1 million safe working hours by more than 500 employees.

Accidents affect insurance and workers compensation rates, as well as productivity and overall cost, so it pays for employees to do their job safely.

According to Wausau Insurance, PowerSouth’s safety record is 50 percent above the national average. Robert Folk, Wausau Loss Prevention Technical Consultant, said PowerSouth sets a good example for other companies to follow.

“Management really makes safety a priority,” Folk said. “I wish every account was as easy as this one.”

Gary Smith, PowerSouth President and CEO, said management’s goal is to provide employees with the tools and training they need in order to do their job in a safe manner. “Safety is PowerSouth’s number one value,” Smith said.

Central Generation’s John Tisdale, Plant Manager, and David Wyatt, Operation Superintendent, both said plant employees have a strong dedication to job safety. “I can honestly say I’m working with some of the most dedicated individuals found anywhere,” Wyatt said. “Each person here watches out for each other and does his or her job in a safe manner.”

Buddy Manring, PowerSouth Safety Supervisor, echoed those sentiments. “Reaching a year without a lost-time accident proves your commitment to one another’s safety.”

Damon Morgan, PowerSouth Vice President of Power Supply, thanked employees for their dedication to safety. “I’m very proud of each of you and your strong work ethic,” Morgan said. “Continue in your success.”
