ANDALUSIA, ALA. — H2O Plus, PowerSouth Energy Cooperative’s water heater demand-side management program, has grown steadily since April, with a 67 percent increase in installations over a three-month period.
As of the end of June, 770 load control devices have been installed on the PowerSouth system, compared to just 460 at the end of April.
Central Alabama EC (Prattville, Ala.) has now installed 538 devices, Wiregrass EC (Hartford, Ala.) has installed 154, Escambia River EC (Jay, Fla.) has installed 41 and South Alabama EC (Troy, Ala.) has installed 37.
According to Cory Ellis, PowerSouth Member Service Representative, other PowerSouth distribution members are evaluating the program and plan to implement it in the coming months.
The water heaters are equipped with a load control device that allows PowerSouth to remotely control usage during peak hours to minimize demand without inconveniencing consumers.
There have been 12 load control events since January, with five of those occurring in June due to higher temperatures.
