Florida Governor Rick Scott invests more than $11 million in six Northwest Florida projects from the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund. The Fund was established by Governor Scott and the Florida Legislature last year to enhance economic development across the state. Funds will be used for public infrastructure improvements and workforce training programs.
Governor Scott receives recommendations from Enterprise Florida and the Department of Economic Opportunity but has full discretion over awarding the funds. A total of $57 million from the initial legislative appropriation of $85 million has been awarded.
This past legislative session, state leaders have made another $85 million available for the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund. Moreover, an additional $300 million will be invested in economic development in Northwest Florida from Triumph Gulf Coast. SUMMARY OF NORTHWEST FLORIDA AWARDED PROJECTS
INFRASTRUCTURE
- Pensacola International Airportwill use funds for additional taxiways, ramp construction and expansion for future development, as well as make improvements to facilities for aviation education and training. ($4,000,000)
- Marianna Airport Commerce Park, a McCallum Sweeney certified industrial park in Jackson County that is 7 miles from I-10 and Hwy 71, will extend the runway to 6,000 feet to accommodate larger business jets.($1,987,322)
- Â Liberty County, located halfway between Florida’s capital city of Tallahassee and the coastal community of Panama City, will pave 1.5 miles off Hwy 65 South to access more than 500 acres of property for economic development. ($1,448,831)
- Washington County will build water and sewer infrastructure as a part of the development of a 1,525-acre commercial/industrial/mixed use development district off I-10 and U.S. 79. ($1,821,461)
WORKFORCE TRAINING
- Chipola College, located in Marianna, will purchase equipment to enhance and expand the welding program to meet the demand in North Florida for entry-level, high-skilled welders. ($76,240)
- Pensacola State College will increase the number of students earning industry-recognized credentials and degrees required to enter and advance in advanced manufacturing, aviation maintenance, welding, cybersecurity/information technology, nursing, transportation and construction trades.
